Macc Town have a busy week ahead of them as the pre season campaign reaches it’s conclusion. The Silkmen firstly travel to Hednesford Town tomorrow evening, folowing by home matches with Stockport (Tuesday) and Chengdu Blades (Thursday).

The final friendly will take place at Bower Fold next Saturday when the Silkmen make the short journey up to Bower Fold to face Steve Burr’s Stalybridge Celtic.

Silkmen fans have certainly had their football fix nutured over the past week or two with an astonishing amount of games being played. But with no reserve keeper and inconsistent performances, are they going to be that beneficial come August 2nd?

The new adidas Macc strips went on sale yesterday and were thought to have gone down well with fans.

After the shambles of last years shirts, Adidas certainly did come up with the goods although £40 did seem a bit steep at first.

The shirts are without doubt the most professional the club have ver had and this should show with the amount of replica strips which are sold this season.

Jonny Brain and Simon Yeo were welcome additions to the mornings entertainment as everyone looks foreward to the 2008/09 season  and hope that the team can do the strips justice.

After the encouraging comments which I have received regarding the website over the last few weeks, I have decided that Super Silkmen is to be reignited ready for the 2008-09 season.

Macc fans hoping to see Simon Wiles back at the Moss Rose have suffered a massive setback as the youngster has been offered a new contract at Blackpool.

The tricky winger was a fans favourite whilst at the Moss and certainly added to our attacking options. Yet the Seasiders have offered him a surprise new contract after it was all but sorted that he would be making his way out of Bloomfield Road.

Wonder if KA will try and sign him on loan?

Don’t think that Wilesy will fit in with the gaffer’s style of football though – what do you think?

The Silkmen have confirmed that they will be taking part in a three match tour of Northern Ireland in preparation for the 08/09 season.

They will kick off the tour with a match against Larne on 15th July and follow this up with matches against Bangor (July 19th) and a match two days prior to this against as yet unconfirmed opposition.

Keith Alexander has taken sides to the area previously and has stated that this has always been a worthwhile experience and one which should yield benefits to the team.

That is according to the bookies anyway as the first set of odds have been released for the League Two title in 08/09.

Last season shirt sponsorship stood at £150, but for the 2008/09 season this has been reduced to £125. Further to this, the club have announced that anyone sponsoring a home and away shirt will get this at the discounted rate of £200.

Sponsoring the player’s shirts has several advantages. Amongst these are –

Former Conference rivals Stevenage Borough have emerged as the early favourites to win the Blue Square Premier League and take their place within the Football League.

Borough, who were Conference champions in 1996, narrowly missed out on a play off place last season, yet are hotly tipped to lift the championship crown for the second time next season. The price which many bookies are quoting for Boro to be victorious in 2009 is a competitive 6/1

Other early pace setters in the betting odds are Mansfield Town at 8/1 whilst the two sides relegated from League Two, Mansfield and Wrexham are also right up there.

In terms of relegation from the Conference, favourites at the moment are Weymouth, with Eastbourne, Lewes, Barrow and Woking not too far behind.

Stockport County edged past local rivals Rochdale in an entertaining play off final at Wembley this afternoon.

Dale took the lead mid way through the first have when Rory McArdle’s powerful header flew past keeped Conrad Logan. Looking at the goal, it did seem that Adam Le Fondre impeded the keeper somewhat, yet the Hatters did not have to wait too long for their own slice of luck.

From a short Stockport corner, the ball was whipped in and Nathan Stanton was unlucky to see his arm deflect the ball past a wrong footed Tommy Lee.

Anthony Pilkington put the Hatters ahead just after the break with a powerful header, before Liam Dickinson’s near post thunderbolt left Lee with no chance.

Stockport by this time were well on top, but Dickinson’s goal served as a catalyst for the Lancastrians who upped their game for the remaining period. They were given just reward when Adam Rundle hammered a glorious volley passed Logan, however it proved to be too little to late as Stockport ended their three year stay in the League’s basement division.
